What kind of fabric do you dye on?

Cottons are 100% Pimatex, a very finely woven cotton. It's great for piecing, fabulous for applique, and is very durable. The velvet is an 82% rayon/17% silk blend. The rayon pile takes the dye beautifully.

Will the fabric bleed?

It might. Here is the note I include in every kit. A WORD ABOUT OUR FABRICS... These artisian hand dyed fabrics have been washed in hot water and Synthrapol for an extended period, soaked in industrial fabric softener and dried to dampness before ironing. We do not feel it is necessary to wash again before using. (Please DO preshrink any commercial fabrics included in the kits.) Wrinkles can be removed with a hot iron and a spray bottle. Although colorfast in COLD water, some dye transfer is still possible if wet or damp fabrics touch each other. This is also true for commercial fabrics. Therefore, it is VERY important that quilts and garments not be allowed to sit in a washer after the cycle has ended. Remove them immediately to dry in the appropriate fashion.

To be absolutely sure, dampen a piece of white scrap fabric, lay the dyed fabric on top, spray lightly with water and iron. If dye is visible on the white fabric, wash and soften again.

Why are your cottons more expensive than some other sites?

  1. I dye on Pimatex, which costs about 3 times more than most muslin base fabrics.
  2. Because a limited amount of fabric can be produced each day using my techniques.
  3. Because I give you the full amount of fabric ordered and I absorb the shrinkage.
  4. I'm trying to make a living wage in the United States.

How soon will you ship my order?

I'm so glad you asked. It is my goal to ship every order as quickly as possible. I want my customers to be 100% delighted that they chose to do business with me. Fabrics are generally filled on an "as ordered" basis. In other words, when you order it, I create it. Depending upon the size and content of your order and my backlog, it could take as little as 1 day or as much as 4 weeks. If you have a deadline that must be met, please e-mail me and I will write back with availability information as soon as humanly possible.

I realize that this is not the Amazon.com way of doing business, but I am not Amazon.com. I am a person who has kids, pets, therapy appointments and a life that sometimes gets in the way of business. There are lots of folks on the web selling patterns and fabrics. If you have a deadline I can't meet, there's plenty of people to help you. I have decided that I am not gonna have headstone that reads "She Got Every Order Out Like Lightning, but the Dog Coughed to Death."

What is your return policy?

For fabric, if it's not what you want, send it back and you will receive a refund for the item minus any shipping costs. Please e-mail or call me to let us know what the problem is, and I will give you a return confirmation number. Return shipping is your cost.
